Gambling's wise ironclad rule: play within your limit. This does not imply something ambiguous; it simply means a fixed dollar limit, prepared before you bet on any game.
Never allow yourself to change your limit in the middle of the battle, otherwise you will be tempted to do something absurd, and you'll realize in a minute that all has been a waste.
Most of all, you'll never leave the place knowing that such impulsiveness can lead anyone into deep trouble.
Analyze beforehand just how much you have to spend on gambling - may it be business or for the sheer pleasure of it, and try not to spend more than you can.
If this seems so plain to say, just keep in mind that in practice it can be the most difficult but wisest discipline you'll ever make.
The other rule is so much harder to follow through - bet only a minimum when you are losing, set a higher amount when winning.
This means gambling the house's money, not yours. Unfortunately, an inexperienced gambler's tendency is to reverse its true meaning, and lose in the end.
